Brilliant Century to Clark

Round 1 in the Huon Channel Cricket Association’s roster matches was littered with many fine performances throughout our four Grades, but none more so than the brilliant century by our A Grade Captain, Stuart Clark.

Clark opened the batting and was last man out for 104. A Grade played last year’s Grand Final runners-up, the Kingston Crows, on Saturday at our home ground at Cygnet.

Batting first, we could only manage the total of 206 against the tight Crows’ tight bowling line-up. Clark was our major contributor with his century. New Club Coach Gordon Kerr contributed 21 before being run out.

In reply, the Crows were cruising along at 2/125 before Jason Clark removed the dangerous Elliott for 41. Wickets then fell at a regular rate from there on and the Crows were bundled out for 191. David Griffiths claimed 3/35, Gordon Kerr took 2/33 and Jason Clark 2/53, being our multiple wicket takers.

Our fielding and catching needs a bit of work as we spilt some fairly simple chances – but this is only Round 1 as the cobwebs are cleared.

B Grade made it two from two on Saturday when they defeated the Southern Tigers at Franklin.

Batting first, the Roadies reached 210 before being dismissed in the 45th over. Daniel Walter led the batting with 46 runs. Opening batsman Rodney Dance 39 and Paul Cowen 34 also batted very well.

In reply, the Roadies’ opening bowlers, Darris Fahey and Daniel Walter, had the Southern Tigers’ batsmen in all sorts of trouble at 6/34 before Youd and Hickey took the score to 150. Bradley Watson was brought into the attack with immediate success, claiming three wickets as the Tigers were dismissed in the 45th over for 182. Darris Fahey 4/30, Bradley Watson 3/22 and Daniel Walter 2/34 were our major wicket takers.

Our C Grade 1 side made it three from three when they defeated Woodbridge 1 at Woodbridge on Sunday.

Batting first, the Roadies accumulated 243 before being dismissed in the 43rd over. David Bone 59, Jonathon Harley 49, Peter Ross 32, Jeremy Cracknell 27 and Ian Coulson 26 all got amongst the runs.

In reply, Woodbridge were bundled out easily. Ian Coulson 3/19 and Daniel Webster 3/20 did the damage with Max Carter chipping in with two wickets.

The Roadies made it four from four when the Number 2 C Grade side scored an emphatic win over a depleted Woodbridge 2 side at home on Sunday.

Batting first, the Roadies reached 148 before being bowled out in the 25th over. Stand-in skipper Julian Direen top scored with 52 whilst Bernadette Doyle compiled 27.

A depleted Woodbridge batting line-up could only manage 44 in reply. Julian Direen took 3/0 and Gerard Warren 1/22.

Congratulations must go to new Club President Brendan Polley and Club Coach Gordon Kerr. All the very best and enjoy any challenges as the season unfolds.
