Wins for A & C, but narrow loss for B Grade 6/12/11

Slab Roads A Grade team travelled to Ranelagh to take on the North Huon ‘Warriors’ in Round 6 on Saturday.

Slab Road won the toss and elected to bat, with the worse possible start, North Huon were on a roll and full of confidence. Brad Clark 21 and Luke Swards 26 put valuable runs on the board. Damien Clark 37 top scored with great support from Aaron Cherry 32 and Jason Clark chipping in with 26 not out. Slab Road at the end of their allotted overs were 8/158.

The wicket takers for the Roadies were Damien Clark 3/22, Nathan Clark 2/23 and Luke Swards 2/29. Julian Direen, Jason Clark and Aaron Cherry picking up a wicket each. Slab Road winning the game by 32 runs.

With the team playing well together with different combinations, no spot is guaranteed, due to unavailability of some players at certain times, others  ’step up’ so therefore the selectors have a difficult job. It is a great position to be in, so by finals time any player is capable of playing A grade cricket.

B Grade played at home against Snug. Slab Road won the toss and elected to bat. Stephen Direen 66 top scored with Justin Direen 27 finishing with a total of all out for 154.

Justin Direen had a great game snaring 6/41. Great effort Justin. With Max Carter 2/35 and a wicket to Daniel Webster, Slab Road fell short by one wicket.

C Grade is continuing on winning their games by big margins. They played the Southern Tigers at Castle Forbes Bay on Sunday.

Slab Road batted first and amassed a total of 279 with the loss of 8 wickets. Rodney Dance 63, Justin Jarrett 69 (who hasn’t lost his touch) Daniel Walter 56 and Brad Cordwell 42 n.o. were the main run makers.

In reply, Oscar Carter 2/3, Graeme Coulson 2/13, Pat Coulson 2/23 and Brad Cordwell 2/29 picked up the wickets. Slab Road winning the game by 175 runs. The unfortunate accident to David Clark retired hurt put a gloomy feel over the game. The Slab Road Cricket Club wishes David a speedy recovery. Daniel Walter is expecting a rate rise in the next few days!
