Blazing century to Jarrett 12/11/08

Highlights for the Slab Road Cricket Club in Round 4 of the Huon Channel Cricket Association’s 2008-9 season were a brilliant knock of 147 by A Grade’s opening batsman Justin Jarrett and 50 runs contributed by B Grade’s “Mr Consistent” Adam Coad.
A Grade continued on its winning way when they scored a comfortable win over home side Margate on Saturday in some of the most windiest conditions possible to play cricket in.
Winning the toss and batting first, the Roadies got off to a flyer from openers Jarrett and Watson, who put on 76 runs for the eleven overs before Watson’s dismissal.
Stu Clark, Damien Coad and Mat Cane all went cheaply but this didn’t deter Jarrett, who was in scintillating form, reaching his century in the 21st over.
Jarrett was finally dismissed in the 38th over for a superb knock of 147.
Jason Clark 57, Bradley Watson 47 and Daniel Watson 34 also made solid contributions to the Roadies’ big score of 8/343.
Opening bowlers Damien and Nathan Clark got early wickets to put Margate on the back foot.
The windy conditions, however, didn’t improve, having to battle away in dismissing the home side in the 49th over for 194.
Nathan Clark continued his fine start to the season, snaring 3/26 off 10 overs whilst sparingly used leg spinner Bradley Watson took 2/26.
B Grade lost its home match when defeated by visitors Blackmans Bay.
Batting first, the Roadies could only manage a total of 130 for the innings.
Adam Coad made 50, Will Ford 21 and Kade 20.
In reply, the visitors reached the target six wickets down in the 43rd over.
Five catches were dropped, which didn’t help when defending a small total.
Captain Daniel Walter, playing his first B Grade game for the season, took the bowling honours with the figures of 10 overs for 3/18.
C Grade travelled to Kingston to take on a very strong team.
Batting first, the Roadies could only manage 87 runs.
Jonathon Harley 22, Jeremy Cracknell 16, Mitch Direen 17 and Kane Nielson 14 were the only batsmen to get starts in a disappointing batting display.
Kane Nielson bowled a fine opening spell to have the home side 5/60 but the Crows didn’t lose another wicket to score a comfortable win.
I’m still waiting on an update for the Duck Club and Dolly Club – I am betting there are a couple of clear leaders in both categories.
Don’t forget that, this Saturday night, there will be a 70s Night. $5 entry fee. DJ. Dress up and make yourself look foolish.
