Round 7 of the Huon Channel Cricket Association’s 2009-10 season saw the Slab Road Cricket Club’s teams win three out of the four games they participated in.A Grade, playing at home on Saturday, hosted the Blackmans Bay Sharks. Batting first, the Roadies reached 229 before being dismissed in the 49th over. Gordon Kerr continued his hot form in top scoring with 72 whilst opening batsmen Daniel Watson 44 and Stewart Clark 31 got the side off to a solid start. In reply, Blackmans Bay lost two early wickets to opening bowler Nathan Clark. From then on, they struggled to get any big partnerships going and were dismissed in the 45th over for 185. Veteran leg spinner Jason Clark claimed the bowling honours with 3/20. He was well supported by Daniel Walter 2/26, Nathan Clark 2/34 and Gordon Kerr 2/39. B Grade, playing away to the Blackmans Bay team, had an easier match when they completely out-played the home side. Batting first, the Roadies reached 207 before being bowled out. Captain Paul Cowen top scored with 60. Brad Watson made 49 and Rodney Dance scored 36. In reply, Blackmans Bay were bowled out for 46 runs. David Bone was the star with the ball, claiming 6/20. Darris Fahey caused plenty of problems, claiming 4/22. C1 scored a convincing win when they defeated Longley at Longley in their Sunday match. Batting first, Longley reached 9/146. Kane Neilson claimed 3/22, Max Carter 2/30 and Daniel Webster 2/32 to be the leading wicket takers. In reply, the Roadies reached the target in the 22nd over. Peter Ross top scored with 45 not out, Jonathon Hartley made 39 and Rhys Jennings scored 32 to be our leading run scorers. C2 lost their home game when they were defeated by Kettering on Sunday. Batting first, the visitors amassed the huge total of 5/300. Belinda Page and young Matthew Coulson were the leading wicket takers with two wickets each. In reply, Belinda Page 54, Captain Bernadette Doyle 34 and Damien Duggan 10 were our only batters to reach double figures as we were dismissed for 176. Duck Club: Clutch, Corey, Sam, Stevie.
