Round 6 of the Huon Channel Cricket Association’s roster games saw some fine performances from Slab Road Cricket Club’s players, none better than the century scored by new Club Coach, Gordon Kerr.Kerr blasted 119 not out with eight 4s and four 6s in his knock against Woodbridge. While his team went down narrowly, young Nick Duggan, for C2, put in a fine bowling performance to claim 6/35 off nine overs. Marcus Boks scored 53 runs for C1. Round 6 saw our A Grade take on the Woodbridge Wombats at home, winning the toss and batting first in the overcast conditions. The Roadies’ batsmen soon found themselves in early trouble against some very good bowling from Clifford and Friend and were 3/44 after 10 overs. Matthew Cane made a solid 36 runs before his dismissal. When Daniel Walter was caught for 16, the team was 1/170 off 39 overs. With Kerr continuing to bat well, and Jason Clark hitting a quick-fire 47 not out, the pair took the total to 5/266 off their 50 overs. In reply, the Woodbridge batsmen struggled against the Roadies’ quick bowling and battled through to be dismissed in the 37th over for 100. Damien and Nathan Clark and Gordon Kerr completed a good all-round, claiming two wickets each. Daniel Walter fielded exceptionally well, claiming four catches. B Grade had the bye. C1 had a comfortable win in their Sunday clash with the visiting Huonville Bulls. Batting first, the Roadies reached 6/208 off their 50 overs. Marcus Boks made a hard-hitting 53 runs. Good contributions also were made by Peter Ross 37, Gerard Warren 29 not out, Will Ford 27 and Rhys Jennings 24. In reply, the Huonville Bulls were bowled out for 113. Daniel Webster claimed the bowling honours with 3/32. Kane Neilson 2/21, Max Carter 2/25 and Tyler Cowen 2/9 all contributed to a fine bowling performance. C2 were narrowly defeated by Huonville on Sunday when they went down by one wicket in a low scoring game. Batting first, the young Roadies struggled to put some big scores together and were bowled out for 89. In reply, the Roadies fought very hard to claim victory, having the Bulls down nine wickets when they scored the winning runs. A sensational 6/35 by Nick Duggan and 2/35 by the consistent Damien Duggan almost snatched victory for the young Roadies. A great effort and any wins will be a bonus.
